Lessons about Balance from my mother on Mother's Day 🌸

Hello my friend!

Happy Mothers Day, if you observe it. For some of us, it is a day of happiness in honoring our mothers and being honored by our children (if you have them). For some of us, it’s a bittersweet day of remembrance.

My mother was a great source of wisdom and strength for me. She was also very good at finding SATTVA, a balance between 2 opposing experiences. She would work hard and she would rest just as hard. She would balance extreme social stress with quiet times of solitude. She seemed to know exactly when to talk and when to listen.

So with her in mind, I would like to share these little tips for finding balance:

  1. Use curiosity to become aware of imbalances in your life. There are 8 facets of wellness, look at each to see if you are in homeostasis
  2. Practice both effort AND ease. I often meet people who struggle with one or the other. Make friends with both.
  3. Define your values and boundaries, and stick to them. When you are grounded in these, you will feel very little regret or guilt in your choices, especially choices that bring you into balance
  4. Keep noticing and adjusting. Balance is not an end-goal, it’s a state of being that shifts as life shifts.
