Navigating midlife is a unique journey, filled with transitions like perimenopause, menopause, career changes, and even empty-nest syndrome. These experiences can be overwhelming, but they also present an incredible opportunity for transformation and self-discovery.

What Is a Chakra Assessment in Yoga Therapy?

In yoga therapy, the chakras—energetic centers in the body—offer insights into how stressors manifest physically, emotionally, and energetically. When I work with clients, we begin by exploring their medical history, stressors, and goals. This information helps identify which chakras may be overactive, underactive, or balanced.

For example:

  • Struggles with pelvic pain or incontinence may point to imbalances in the Root or Sacral Chakras.
  • Issues like frequent throat infections or feeling unheard could relate to the Throat Chakra.

By addressing these imbalances through tailored yoga practices, breathwork, journaling, and affirmations, we aim to create harmony and foster self-transformation.

A Real-World Example: Working with the Throat Chakra

Let’s say a client mentions persistent throat discomfort, a strained voice, or feelings of being unheard after a major life change like retirement. These concerns often connect to the Throat Chakra, which governs communication and self-expression.

In this case, we might explore:

  1. Gentle Movements: Neck stretches, shoulder rolls, and side bends to create space and release tension.
  2. Breathwork & Mantra: Simple hums or seed sounds to stimulate the vagus nerve and improve vocal confidence.
  3. Journaling Prompts: Questions like What do you love about your voice? Who listens to you now? Where can you express yourself fully?
  4. Affirmations: “My voice is strong and clear,” or “I speak my truth with confidence.”
