Yoga for the Kapha Mind
Viviane Wolfe | APR 17, 2023

Hello my friend!
Have you ever felt dull, listless, overcome with brain fog? In spring, KAPHA is the dosha that is most prominent, according to ayurveda (the life science that accompanies yoga). The main elements of kapha are earth and water. That means, during spring you may experience these elements in your mind.
Earth is cool, stable, heavy, dry, rough, gross, dense, dull, and hard
Water cools, moistens, adheres, soothes, softens, smoothes, dulls, and spreads.
When we look at the mind through this lens, it’s important to remember we are looking for BALANCE. Not too much or too little of any one element, aspect, or dosha.
When the Kapha in the mind is balanced, it is focused, steady, patient, you see projects through to the end.
When the mind has too much Kapha, it becomes bored, dull, slow, stuck, lethargic, and withdrawn. Depression is commonly associated with excess kapha.
So how do we bring balance? Here are a few ideas:
A good pranayama practice for stimulating a kapha mind is right-nostril-breathing, or Surya Bhedana:
Surya Bhedana is associated with the sun, the heat and light of this breathing practice will clear the mental cobwebs and bring more clarity.
