Clearing Out and Welcoming Transformation: A Spring Detox for Your Body and Mind
As we move through midlife, it’s important to take moments to clear out the old and make space for the new—whether that’s new goals, habits, or ways of being. Today’s practice is all about giving ourselves permission to reset, cleanse, and open up to the possibilities ahead. This practice is not about following a traditional detox plan. Instead, it’s designed to support the body’s natural ability to cleanse and rejuvenate itself, especially as we prepare for the fresh energy that spring brings.
Join me for a gentle movement practice that helps you tune into your body’s natural processes, clear out any stagnant energy, and set the stage for transformation. Whether you're new to yoga or have a regular practice, this short sequence will leave you feeling rejuvenated, balanced, and ready to embrace the opportunities of the year ahead.
In spiritual practices like manifestation and the law of attraction, clearing out the old can help make space for what we want to bring into our lives. Just like spring cleaning for our homes, we can approach this time of year by physically and energetically clearing out the clutter that holds us back. This practice will help you release physical tension and emotional stagnation so you can step into the new season with a fresh mindset and clearer intentions.
Before we begin, take a moment to check in with yourself. Stand with your feet together and your arms at your sides. Notice how your body feels. Are there areas of tension? Are you feeling warm or cool? What’s happening in your breath—fast or slow, shallow or deep? Acknowledging these sensations helps you connect with your body’s current state and prepares you for the practice ahead.
We’ll start with a dynamic chair pose to engage the whole body and warm things up. From here, we’ll move into some gentle twists to release tension and stimulate the digestive and detox systems.
This simple twisting movement encourages the body to “wring out” energy, releasing tension and helping with detoxification. Repeat a few times on each side, noticing how your breath flows in and out with each twist.
Next, we’ll ease into a seated twist to deepen the stretch and continue releasing tension in the spine and lower back. If you’re seated on the floor, cross your right leg over your left leg, or sit in a comfortable chair. With your right hand on your left knee and your left hand behind you, inhale to lengthen your spine, and exhale to twist gently to the left.
Focus on your breath as you deepen the twist, encouraging your body to “ring out” any stagnant energy, like squeezing out a dishcloth.
To finish the practice, we’ll clear out any remaining tension with a breathwork technique called Lion’s Breath. This simple but powerful practice helps release tension from the head and neck, leaving you feeling invigorated and clear-headed.
Repeat a few times, feeling the energy shift and release.
After the practice, I encourage you to take out your journal and reflect on the experience. How did your body feel? Did you notice any discomfort or ease? What thoughts or emotions came up during the practice? Writing these reflections down can be incredibly helpful in tracking your transformation over time and understanding where your body and mind may need more attention.
If you found value in this practice and want to continue your journey of self-discovery and transformation, I invite you to join the Zen X Yoga Community. Our free community is a space for Generation X women (and anyone who resonates with our approach) to gather, practice, and support each other through midlife and beyond. You’ll have access to monthly live yoga classes, helpful resources, and a supportive group of like-minded individuals.
Thank you for joining me today, and I look forward to seeing you on the mat again soon! From my heart to yours, take good care of yourself and keep embracing the journey. ✨
