Lesson 32: Overcoming Self-Doubt with Yoga & Mindset Shifts
Viviane Wolfe | AUG 25, 2025

Navigating midlife can feel like an unending series of shifts and challenges, often accompanied by a quiet sense of self-doubt. You might find yourself questioning your decisions, your path, or even your identity. But what if you could face these changes with a deep sense of confidence and grounded strength?
You can. And the practice of yoga, specifically the empowering warrior poses, can help.
This lesson will guide you through a simple yet potent yoga practice featuring Warrior I and Warrior II. These postures are not about aggression or struggle; they are a gentle path to discovering your inner strength, stability, and sense of purpose, empowering you to face life's changes with confidence.
In yoga, every posture tells a story. The warrior poses, Virabhadrasana I and II, are named after a fierce mythological warrior. However, they teach us more about inner discipline and courage than about external battle.
By holding these poses, you learn to:
Anchor Down: Your lower body, your feet and legs, becomes your foundation. They are rooted to the earth, providing a stable and secure base. This physical rooting translates into a mental and emotional anchor, helping you feel grounded and secure amidst life's chaos.
Reach for the Future: Your upper body—your arms and chest—reach up and out. This gesture represents embracing change, facing the future, and reaching for new horizons with an open heart.
Embrace Your Inner Warrior: This practice helps you reconnect with your innate confidence, reminding you that you are strong, resilient, and capable of navigating whatever comes your way.
This gentle practice is designed to be accessible. It can be done anywhere you have enough room to step forward, ensuring that you can engage in this transformative journey at your own pace and convenience.
Mountain Pose (Tadasana): Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Feel the four corners of each foot rooted evenly on the floor. Let your arms hang at your sides with palms facing forward.
Breathing Visualization: Close your eyes or soften your gaze. Inhale and visualize your breath and energy moving down from the crown of your head, through your body, and into the earth beneath you. As you exhale, visualize that energy flowing back up through your body and out into the sky. Repeat this a few times to feel connected to both the ground and the space around you.
Flowing Warm-Up: Inhale, sweep your arms up. Exhale, fold forward, bringing your hands to the floor. Inhale, rise halfway up with a flat back. Exhale, fold again. Inhale, rise up, reaching for the sky. Exhale, float your hands back to your sides. Repeat this flow two more times, letting your breath guide your movement.
From your standing position, step your right foot forward and turn your left foot out to a 45-degree angle.
Bend your right knee so it is directly over your ankle. Keep your hips as forward-facing as possible.
Inhale and sweep your arms up, with your biceps by your ears.
Breathe and Anchor: On each inhale, feel yourself rooting down through your feet, finding your stability. On each exhale, open your heart and reach a little higher, embracing the future. Hold for three to four deep breaths.
From Warrior I, open your hips and torso to the left. Your right arm will reach forward, and your left arm will reach back, parallel to the floor.
Look over your right middle finger. Your right knee, right foot, and gaze should all be pointing in the same direction.
Feel the Power: Feel the deep strength in your legs and the expansion in your chest. Your front hand reaches toward your future, while your back hand anchors you to your past and present stability. Hold for three deep breaths.
Gently release the pose and return to your Mountain Pose. Repeat the sequence on the other side, stepping your left foot forward for Warrior I.
After completing the sequence on both sides, return to Mountain Pose. Close your eyes and simply notice how you feel. Pay attention to the sensations in your body and the quality of your breath. Notice if anything has shifted since you began. When you're ready, bring your hands to your heart and take one more deep, cleansing breath together.
This practice serves as a powerful reminder that you don't need to fight or resist change. Instead, you can find the strength to face it head-on, knowing you are grounded and capable. It's a transformative journey that you can continue with our supportive community.
