Lesson 29 | Yoga for Better Sleep in Menopause: A Gentle 10-Minute Routine for Gen X Women
Viviane Wolfe | AUG 4, 2025

If you're a woman in Gen X, you know midlife can feel like a nonstop rollercoaster, and nowhere is that more evident than in the bedroom. The hormonal shifts of perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause often bring with them a storm of "inner weather": anxious thoughts, a busy mind, and lingering stress that can make a good night's sleep feel impossible.
It’s a common challenge for women our age, but you don't have to surrender to restless nights. This gentle, 10-minute yoga routine is designed to help you let go of worry and transition your mind and body into a state of deep relaxation. You can even do this practice right in your bed to make the move from yoga to sleep seamless.

This short, restorative sequence is perfect for calming your nervous system and preparing your body for rest.
Settle In (Savasana): Lie on your back with your knees bent, feet planted on the floor, and arms at your sides. Use a folded blanket or pillow to support your head. Take a moment to simply breathe and notice the sensations in your body.
Knee-to-Chest Hug: Gently pull your knees into your chest, giving yourself a hug. This simple pose releases tension in your lower back. Breathe deeply here, allowing your body to soften.
Gentle Knee Circles: With your hands on your knees, begin to make slow, gentle circles. This movement massages the sacrum and lower back, a common area of tension.
Supine Spinal Twist: Lower your knees to one side, extending the opposite arm out. This gentle twist releases stress from your spine and shoulders. Repeat on the other side.
Windshield Wipers: Widen your feet and let your knees rock from side to side. This movement stretches the hips and sides of the body, helping to relieve tightness.
Final Resting Pose (Savasana): Extend your legs and find a comfortable resting position. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Visualize your breath as an ocean wave—rising on the inhale, crashing on the exhale—washing away all remaining tension and worry. Stay here for as long as you like.
By incorporating this simple, therapeutic yoga practice into your evening routine, you can combat menopause insomnia and reclaim the peaceful sleep you deserve.
