Lesson 1 | Midlife Transformation: Breathwork and Yoga Techniques for Calm and Comfort
Viviane Wolfe | JAN 2, 2025

Midlife brings unique challenges and opportunities for self-discovery. As a yoga therapist, I’ve designed this simple breathwork and body awareness practice to help Generation X women navigate midlife, especially during perimenopause and menopause. With this practice, you’ll learn to find calm, ease physical discomfort, and embrace mindfulness.
Start with a body scan, gently observing sensations from head to toe. This practice fosters mindfulness, helping you tune into areas of tension or comfort without judgment. It’s a powerful way to ground yourself and set a positive intention for the practice—or even for the year ahead.
Next, we practice Samana breath, where the inhale and exhale are of equal length. This technique balances the nervous system, promotes relaxation, and prepares the body for deeper breathwork.
Finally, we extend the exhale, doubling its length compared to the inhale. Known as Langhana breath, this technique helps release tension, soothe the mind, and promote a profound sense of calm.
We conclude the practice with a soothing visualization. Imagine a warm, comforting light traveling through your body, releasing any remaining tension and leaving you feeling refreshed and centered.
